So today I moved back to school. I got up this morning knowing that the goal was to be in Austin before 11 am so that I could check-in right at the beginning of my scheduled hour. And really, everything was going so smoothly: everything fit perfectly in our two cars (my parents' minivan and my Honda Civic), we were ahead of schedule, and I was ready to go.
Then we decided to go to Starbuck's before heading out.
I parked in the Starbuck's parking lot in a spot that had a bit of incline. Such a bit of an incline, in fact, that when I put it in park, the car moved forward about three or four inches and hit the concrete. I didn't think much of it at the time, as I have such a small car, it tends to do that occasionally and come out just fine.
When we got back into the car, I had a hard time pulling back out, like something was dragging. But when we were able to pull out, there wasn't anything on the ground, so we let it go. Bad idea. Almost as soon as we got onto I-10, I felt this HUGE bump. I thought I'd blown out a tire. The only place to pull over was this really narrow shoulder (did I mention we were on a bridge?). My dad got out and determined that the front bumper was off for sure.
This was at 9:10. It takes an hour and a half to get to Austin from San Antonio. Can you say panic attack? Well, we called AAA and they said they could get a tow truck to us at 9:55. They were right on time, so kudos AAA. Of course, they couldn't get to us before we had to move everything from the Civic to the van, and I was absolutely certain that my little brother was going to drop my TV off the side of I-10. Anyway, we weren't that far from the Honda dealership, so we followed the tow truck there and filled out the paperwork and got the hell out.
Left Honda at 10:20 and pulled up to the UT Swim Center to check-in at 11:40. My check-in reserved slot ended at noon, so I was relieved to not have to explain why I was late.
The car is already fixed -- turns out the splash guard snapped -- and is ready for pick-up. The parents are driving it back up next Sunday, so all is well.
I wanted a smooth day, but as the philosopher Jagger said, "You can't always get what you want."

And yes, Jagger does say that. But he also says, "But if you try sometime, you get what you need."
Bwahaha. Yes for House quotes. =D

Yes, it could have been much worse, and I'm so happy that it wasn't.
